Book Review: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Ready Player One

Read from August 11 to December 19, 2015

I did it! I finally did it! I finished reading Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and I loved it! I had so many updates on Goodreads (which are never spoilers), so that has to mean something. This took me a while to read because I started school, but when I finally got back to reading it, I couldn’t put the book down!

I wasn’t much of a fan of the first few chapters labeled “Level Two” because it got a little cheesy. Besides that, I loved it. I thought the book was going to be about video games, real life problems, and cool references, and it did not disappoint. It hit a little bit on sexuality, which was a bit out of character for this book when I ran into it, but it didn’t take away from the overall effect. (I am not against freedom of sexuality. The book seemed like an adventure book for kids and teens, so it was really surprising to read when it got to talking about it in like two different parts.)

OVERALL I GAVE THIS BOOK A 5/5 STAR, WOULD READ AGAINNN!!! My grading system is down below.

  • My rating system stands: 5/5 is a knock out of the park; this book deserves to be read by everyone. 4/5 is, “I really liked it,” but it did have a couple of kinks. 3/5 is, “I believe there are a lot of people who would enjoy this book, but for one reason or another, it didn’t sit well with me.” 2/5 is, “I really didn’t enjoy it and I’m not going to recommend it.” 1/5 is, “no one read this – throw it in a lake.”
